Equipment

  • Microwave
  • Toothpicks

Ingredients

  • 6 squares graham cracker squares
  • 1 large chocolate bar broken into 6 pieces
  • 1/2 cup marshmallow creme
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp ready-to-spread frosting any color
  • 6 pretzel sticks
  • 6 Wilton sugared apples or green apple–shaped candies
  • 6 white Mike and Ike candies

Instructions

  • Place a graham cracker square on a plate and spread about 1 tablespoon of marshmallow creme on top.
  • Lay a piece of chocolate over the marshmallow, covering the entire cracker. Press down gently to even the creme.
  • Put the chocolate-covered graham on a microwave-safe plate. Heat for 10 seconds (do not overheat, or the chocolate will lose its shape). Let it cool completely for at least 10 minutes.
  • Use a toothpick to carve a back-to-school word or letter (like “ABC” or “SCHOOL”) deeply into the cooled chocolate.
  • Sprinkle powdered sugar generously over the chocolate, filling the carved lines.
  • Lightly dampen a paper towel and wipe off the extra sugar from the chocolate surface, leaving sugar only inside the carved marks to look like chalk writing.
  • Dip a toothpick into the frosting and use it to glue a pretzel stick along the bottom edge of the chocolate “chalkboard.” Let it dry for 5 minutes to secure the frame.
  • With more frosting on a toothpick, attach a sugared apple to the chocolate (like a little decoration). Let it set for 1 minute.
  • Finally, use frosting to glue a white Mike and Ike candy just above the pretzel stick to look like a piece of chalk. Let everything set for another minute before packing.
