Equipment

  • Baking Sheet
  • Microwave-safe Bowl

Ingredients

Base

  • 2 large apples Granny Smith work best
  • 23 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 8 wooden sticks 6-inch

Decorations

  • 1 bag Oreo cookies for eyes & ears
  • 8 Candy Corns for the nose
  • Wilton Candy Eyeballs optional

Instructions

  • Stand the apples upright on a cutting board. Cut each apple from top to bottom into 4 slices (about ½-inch thick). Gently remove the seeds.
  • Line a large baking sheet with aluminum foil. Push the pointed end of a wooden stick into the bottom of each apple slice.
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips according to the package directions. To keep the chocolate from hardening, place the bowl into a larger bowl filled with about 2 inches of boiling water.
  • Dip each apple slice into the melted chocolate, using a spoon to help coat if needed. Let the extra chocolate drip off, then lay the slice flat on the foil-lined sheet.
  • While the chocolate is still wet, decorate: press an Oreo half onto each side for ears, use two Oreo halves or candy eyeballs for eyes, and place a candy corn at the bottom for the beak. Use a tiny dot of melted chocolate to glue on candy eyeballs.
  • Refrigerate the sheet for 10–15 minutes until the chocolate is firm. If you like, tie a ribbon around each stick. Serve and enjoy your spooky-cute owls!
