Equipment

  • 8x8 inch baking pan
  • Parchment Paper
  • Heat-safe bowl
  • Pot (for double boiler)
  • Whisk
  • Large Spatula
  • Wire Rack

Ingredients

  • 1.25 cups unsalted butter
  • 2 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chopped
  • 1.5 cups packed light brown sugar
  • 0.75 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs at room temperature
  • 1 cup Dutch process cocoa powder sifted
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 3 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 0.75 cup all-purpose flour spooned and leveled
  • 0.67 cup Valentine's Day M&M's chocolate candies pink, red, white

Instructions

  • Get Ready to Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease an 8x8 inch baking pan and line it with parchment paper, leaving a little overhang on the sides for easy removal later.
  • Melt & Blend: In a heat-safe bowl placed over a pot of simmering water (this creates a double boiler), gently melt the butter, chopped semi-sweet chocolate, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Stir frequently until the mixture is smooth and glossy. Remove the bowl from the heat and let it cool for about 5-10 minutes.
  • Add the Eggs: Whisk in the eggs, one at a time, making sure each is fully mixed in before adding the next. Keep whisking until the batter looks light in color and perfectly shiny.
  • Boost the Flavor: Stir in the sifted cocoa powder, salt, and vanilla extract until everything is well combined and fragrant.
  • Fold in Flour Gently: With a large spatula, gently fold in the all-purpose flour. Mix just until a few streaks of flour are left. Be careful not to overmix, as this helps keep your brownies wonderfully fudgy!
  • Into the Pan: Pour the rich brownie batter into your prepared pan and spread the top evenly.
  • Sprinkle with Love: Generously sprinkle the colorful Valentine's Day M&M's over the top of the batter. Resist the urge to press them in!
  • Bake to Perfection: Bake for 45 to 50 minutes. The brownies are ready when the edges are set, and a toothpick inserted about two inches from the side comes out with a few moist crumbs. The center should still be slightly gooey for that perfect fudgy texture. Don't overbake!
  • Cool & Enjoy Mindfully: Let the brownies cool completely on a wire rack before slicing into squares. This patience ensures clean cuts and the absolute best texture. Savor these delightful, homemade treats as a special Valentine's indulgence!
