Ingredients
  

  • 1 box strawberry cake mix (15.25 oz) plus oil, water, eggs
  • 2 sticks unsalted butter (1 cup)
  • 0.5 cup strawberry jam
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract
  • kosher salt Pinch
  • 0.25 cup strawberry syrup for drizzling

Instructions
 

  • Prepare 24 cupcakes using the cake mix according to package directions; allow to cool completely.
  • In a stand mixer with paddle attachment, beat butter on medium speed until fluffy.
  • Mix in strawberry jam until fully blended.
  • Gradually add powdered sugar, one cup at a time, on low speed.
  • Add vanilla and salt, then beat on medium speed until smooth.
  • Frost cupcakes with a thin layer of strawberry buttercream using an offset spatula.
  • Fill a piping bag with remaining buttercream and pipe curved lines and swirls to resemble zombie brains.
  • Arrange cupcakes on a tray and lightly drizzle with strawberry syrup for a bloody effect.
