Equipment

  • Dutch Oven
  • Heavy-duty aluminum foil

Ingredients

  • 2 cans raspberry pie filling (21 ounces each)
  • 1 package yellow cake mix (15.25 ounces)
  • 1 1/4 cups water
  • 1/2 cup canola oil
  • Vanilla ice cream (optional)

Instructions

  • Get your grill or campfire ready for low heat. You'll need about 16-20 charcoal briquettes or large wood chips.
  • Line a heavy ovenproof Dutch oven with heavy-duty aluminum foil. Pour the raspberry pie filling into the foil-lined pot.
  • In a separate bowl, stir together the dry cake mix, water, and canola oil until smooth. Carefully spread this batter over the pie filling.
  • Put the lid on the Dutch oven. Once your briquettes are covered in white ash, place the pot directly on top of about 8-10 of them. Using tongs, carefully arrange the remaining hot briquettes on top of the lid.
  • Cook until the filling is bubbly and a toothpick stuck into the cake topping comes out clean, about 30-40 minutes. Use tongs to lift the lid and check for doneness. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream if you like!
