Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • 12 ounces white candy coating
  • 2 teaspoons shortening
  • 10 ounces large marshmallows about 36

Decoration

  • Paste food coloring optional
  • 36 lollipop sticks
  • Colored sugar
  • Assorted toppings candy eyes, nonpareils, licorice, sour straws

Instructions

  • Melt the candy coating and shortening together in a microwave-safe bowl. Stir until smooth. If you want, add a few drops of paste food coloring to tint the coating.
  • Push a lollipop stick into each marshmallow. Dip each marshmallow into the melted coating, turning to cover completely. Let the extra coating drip off.
  • Roll the dipped marshmallow in colored sugar. Use a dab of leftover melted coating as "glue" to attach candy eyes, nonpareils, or other toppings to make fun alien faces.
  • Place finished marshmallows on waxed paper and let them sit until the coating is firm.
