Equipment

  • Ice Cube Trays
  • Large Heatproof Bowl
  • Pitcher

Ingredients

Magic Ice Cubes

  • 2 cups purple cabbage sliced
  • 4 cups boiling water

Margarita Mixture

  • 8 oz tequila blanco
  • 4 oz triple sec
  • 3 oz lime juice freshly squeezed
  • 1 cup lemonade store-bought or homemade

Garnish

  • 4 lime wedges
  • 1/4 cup kosher salt or coarse sea salt, for rim

Instructions

  • Place the sliced purple cabbage in a large heatproof bowl. Pour the boiling water over it and let it sit until the water turns a deep, eerie blue (about 5 minutes). Strain out the cabbage and let the magical blue liquid cool completely.
  • Once cool, pour the liquid into ice cube trays. Freeze until solid—at least 4 hours or overnight for the spookiest effect.
  • In a pitcher, stir together the tequila, triple sec, lime juice, and lemonade. Rub the rim of each glass with a lime wedge, then dip in salt to coat.
  • Drop a handful of the purple ice cubes into each salted glass. Pour the margarita mixture over the ice. As the cubes melt, watch your drink transform into a haunting pink-purple color. Garnish with a lime wedge and serve.
