Ingredients
  

  • 1 tablespoon softened butter
  • 4 ounces cream cheese at room temperature (full-fat recommended)
  • 0.5 teaspoon orange extract
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated orange peel (zest)
  • 1-2 drops orange gel food coloring (optional, for a vibrant color)
  • 4 cups confectioners' sugar sifted

Instructions
 

  • Ensure cream cheese and butter are at room temperature. Zest the orange and sift the confectioners' sugar.
  • In a medium mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and butter. Stir for 1 to 2 minutes until perfectly smooth and creamy.
  • Add the orange extract and fresh orange zest to the cream cheese mixture. Stir well for about 30 seconds until fully combined.
  • If you'd like a lovely orange hue, add 1 to 2 drops of orange gel food coloring and mix until the color is consistent.
  • Gradually add the sifted confectioners' sugar to the mixture (starting with 1 cup, then 1.5 cups, then the remaining sugar). Stir thoroughly after each addition until it's fully incorporated.
  • Continue mixing until the mixture transforms into a thick, moldable dough that holds together nicely.
  • Pinch off small pieces of the dough and roll them into 1/2-inch balls. Arrange these balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Gently flatten each ball with the back of a fork to create a classic impression.
  • Place the baking sheet with your shaped mints into the refrigerator for 1 hour to firm them up.
  • Serve the mints once chilled.

Notes

Store any leftover mints in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
