Equipment

  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper
  • Electric Mixer
  • Heart-shaped cookie cutter
  • Wire Rack

Ingredients

  • 2¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • ½ cup light brown sugar packed
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs at room temperature
  • 1½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Step 1: Prepare Your Station! Get your oven ready by preheating it to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for an easy, non-stick surface. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt until they're nicely combined. Set this dry mix aside for later.
  • Step 2: Creamy & Dreamy. Grab a large bowl and use an electric mixer to beat the softened butter with both the light brown sugar and granulated sugar. Mix until the mixture is wonderfully light and fluffy, which should take about 1-2 minutes. Next, beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, until everything is just smoothly combined.
  • Step 3: Combine & Conquer. Slowly add your prepared dry flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing gently until you no longer see any white flour streaks. Be sure not to overmix! Finally, gently fold in your delicious chocolate chips.
  • Step 4: Scoop & Style. Scoop about two tablespoons of cookie dough for each treat and place them onto your prepared baking sheet. Make sure to leave about 2-3 inches between each cookie to allow them to spread. For an extra special touch, press a few additional chocolate chips or festive sprinkles onto the tops of each cookie.
  • Step 5: Bake to Golden Goodness. Place your baking sheet into the preheated oven and bake for 9-11 minutes. You're looking for the edges to be just lightly golden brown, while the centers still look slightly soft – this keeps them perfectly chewy!
  • Step 6: The Heartfelt Finish. As soon as the cookies come out of the oven, while they're still warm and pliable, use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to gently press down and cut each cookie into an adorable heart shape. Let these lovely hearts cool on the baking sheet for another 5-7 minutes before carefully transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy your beautiful, homemade Valentine's treats!
