Equipment

  • Baking Sheets
  • Parchment Paper
  • Electric Mixer

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp baking soda
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.33 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1.5 cups Valentine's M&M's and chocolate chips approx. 1 cup M&M's, ½ cup chips

Instructions

  • Warm up your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper for easy cleanup. This keeps things simple!
  • In a medium bowl, gently whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set this aside for a moment.
  • In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat the softened butter with both granulated and brown sugars until the mixture is light and fluffy – about 1 to 2 minutes. This creates that lovely, soft texture.
  • Mix in the egg and pure vanilla extract until everything is just combined. Don't forget to scrape down the sides of the bowl to get all the goodness in!
  • With your mixer on low speed, gradually add the dry flour mixture until just combined. Be careful not to overmix!
  • Gently fold in about 1 cup of the M&M's and chocolate chips into the dough. These little bursts of color and flavor make every bite a treat.
  • Scoop out about 2 tablespoons of dough for each cookie. For slightly thicker cookies, a quick chill of the dough balls in the fridge for 30 minutes to an hour works wonders. If you're in a hurry, you can bake them right away for a chewier, flatter cookie.
  • Press a few extra M&M's and chocolate chips onto the top of each dough ball. Make sure your dough balls are mounded high, not flat, for that perfect cookie shape.
  • Arrange your cookie dough balls on the prepared baking sheets, leaving some space for spreading. Bake for 9 to 12 minutes. You'll know they're ready when the edges are lightly golden, but the centers still look slightly soft. This is the secret to a perfectly chewy cookie!
  • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before moving them to a wire rack to cool completely. They'll firm up as they cool, ready for you to share (or keep all to yourself!). Enjoy this simple, homemade delight in moderation!
