Thai Tea from Scratch

Ingredients
  

  • 6 bags Black Tea
  • 2.5 cups Water
  • 2 tsp Vanilla Extract optional
  • 2 pieces Star Anise
  • 1 tbsp Whole Cardamom
  • 1 stick Cinnamon
  • 0.25 piece Vanilla Bean
  • 2 tsp Ground Turmeric
  • 2 tbsp Sugar coconut palm sugar recommended
  • 0.25 cup Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 2 tbsp Evaporated Milk or Whole Milk

Instructions
 

  • In a medium pot, combine tea bags, water, vanilla extract, star anise, cardamom, cinnamon stick, vanilla bean, and turmeric. Heat over medium until simmering, then lower heat and simmer for 3-5 minutes.
  • Strain the tea mixture to remove spices. Fill two glasses with ice and pour the tea over.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together sweetened condensed milk and evaporated milk until smooth.
  • Pour the milk mixture over the iced tea and garnish with mint leaves.
