Equipment

  • Large 12-inch Skillet
  • Small Saucepan
  • Large gallon-size zip-top bag

Ingredients

  • 1 box penne pasta (12-ounce, such as Barilla Pronto for quick cooking)
  • 3 cups cold water
  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (8-ounce each, thinly sliced)
  • 1 jar light creamy Alfredo sauce (14.5-ounce)
  • Salt to taste
  • freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 tsp liquid red food coloring
  • 2.5 tbsp water (for food coloring mixture)

Instructions

  • In a large 12-inch skillet, combine the uncooked penne pasta with 3 cups of cold water. Turn the heat to high and set a timer for 10 minutes, stirring the pasta occasionally until it's perfectly tender and the water is absorbed (no draining needed!).
  • Carefully transfer the cooked pasta into a large zip-top bag. In a small bowl, whisk together the red food coloring and 2 ½ tablespoons of water. Pour this vibrant mixture over the pasta, seal the bag securely, and gently shake or massage until all the pasta is beautifully coated in red. Let it rest while you cook the chicken.
  • Using the same skillet, add the sliced chicken breasts. Season with salt and pepper, then sauté over medium heat until the chicken is thoroughly cooked and golden brown.
  • While the chicken cooks, gently warm the light Alfredo sauce in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring until it's hot and bubbly.
  • To serve, arrange the festive red pasta on plates. Spoon a generous amount of the warm, creamy Alfredo sauce over the pasta, then top with the tender chicken slices. Serve immediately for a delightful Valentine's Day meal!
