Equipment

  • Medium-sized bowl
  • Whisk
  • Airtight Jar or Container
  • Small Saucepan (or Microwave)
  • Mugs

Ingredients

Eggnog Hot Cocoa Mix

  • 0.5 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 59 g, opt for Dutch-processed for a richer, smoother taste
  • 0.5 cup confectioners’ sugar 62.5 g, also known as powdered sugar
  • 0.5 cup powdered milk 34 g, or use powdered coconut/oat milk for a dairy-free option
  • 1 tsp espresso powder optional, but it deepens the chocolate flavor beautifully!
  • 1 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 0.5 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp kosher salt

To Serve (per mug)

  • 1 cup warmed eggnog or for a lighter option, use half eggnog and half whole milk
  • 3 tbsp homemade Eggnog Hot Cocoa Mix
  • Whipped cream for topping (optional, but a delicious treat!)
  • light sprinkle of nutmeg for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • In a medium-sized bowl, combine the cocoa powder, confectioners’ sugar, powdered milk, espresso powder (if you're using it), nutmeg, cinnamon, and kosher salt. Whisk everything thoroughly until it's perfectly blended and you see no clumps. This ensures a smooth and consistent flavor!
  • Transfer your freshly made hot cocoa mix into an airtight jar or container. Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. This mix will stay fresh and ready for up to one month, making it ideal for quick holiday treats or thoughtful gifts!
  • Gently Warm Your Liquid: Warm 1 cup of your chosen liquid. For a delicious and slightly lighter version, use a blend of half eggnog and half whole milk. You can heat it on the stovetop in a small saucepan or quickly in the microwave until it's steaming, but not boiling.
  • Stir in the Mix: Add 3 tablespoons of your prepared Eggnog Hot Cocoa Mix to the warm liquid. Stir continuously with a spoon or whisk until the powder is fully dissolved and your drink is smooth, rich, and inviting.
  • Garnish & Sip: For an extra festive touch, you can top your hot cocoa with a dollop of whipped cream and a light sprinkle of nutmeg. Serve immediately and enjoy your warm, holiday-inspired beverage!

Notes

This mix will stay fresh and ready for up to one month, making it ideal for quick holiday treats or thoughtful gifts!
